The Los Angeles Municipal Utility Company (LADWP) said that although a power line near Palisez in the Pacific Ocean was in operation at the beginning of the Palisez fire, there was no evidence that the line caused the fire. This fire has become one of the most destructive natural disasters in the history of the United States. Ellen Cheng, a spokesperson for LADWP, pointed out that investigation agencies such as the Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Administration (ATF) of the United States have not found any connection between its equipment and the cause of the fire.
A new complaint submitted later accused LADWP’s electrical system of causing subsequent fires, which eventually merged with the Palisez fire. LADWP responded that it manually shut down the lines after the fire broke out, and the time was earlier than the subsequent fire time claimed in the complaint. At present, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The ATF has inspected the facilities of LADWP but has not requested the retention of relevant equipment as evidence.
In addition, LADWP is also facing lawsuits related to water supply management during the fire. The Palisez fire combined with five other fires that broke out on the same day, including the case where Southern California Edison was sued for allegedly causing the Eaton fire with its equipment. The investigation is still ongoing to determine the specific cause of the fire.
