As the Dahi Handi festival approaches, Govindas are encouraged to secure free insurance coverage. The insurance will be effective from August 14 until 6:00 AM on August 28, aligning with the festival’s activities where Govindas form human pyramids.
In a move reflecting last year’s efforts, the state government has announced free insurance for 75,000 Govindas for the 2024 Dahi Handi celebrations. This initiative is designed to offer financial protection to families in case of a Govinda’s death or serious injury during the festivities.
The sports department issued a government resolution on July 25, 2024, detailing the insurance coverage. The Maharashtra State Dahi Handi Govinda Association will oversee the distribution of insurance to the eligible participants.
Govinda teams must submit a request letter from their organizations, along with an application and a list of all participating Govindas, including their names, ages, and mobile numbers by August 24.
These documents should be scanned and emailed to [email protected]. It is important to note that Govindas under the age of 14 are not eligible for the insurance coverage.
