In the Marshall Fire in Colorado, the United States, although the house of former insurance claims adjuster Michael Balarezo was spared from the fire, the invasion of smoke and dust led to the large-scale demolition of the house. After two years of cumbersome claims settlement and reconstruction, Balarezo deeply realized the predicaments that policyholders face after disasters, such as lagging communication and chaotic processes. This experience prompted him to establish the AI-driven content claims platform Adjusto in 2024, aiming to enhance claims efficiency and transparency through automated technology.
Balarezo once worked for the Insurance company of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture and later transformed into a software engineer for companies such as Google and Amazon. After the fire, he found that the claims process in the insurance industry was still at a standstill, so he developed Adjusto based on his own experience. This platform utilizes data science and machine learning to provide fast and accurate property valuation for insurance companies, third-party settlement institutions, etc., and optimizes the trust building between settlement personnel and policyholders.
A survey by Adjusto shows that delayed claims settlement, inaccurate data and lack of transparency are the main contradictions. Its AI system can automate inefficient links, synchronize key information in real time and reduce disputes. Balarezo emphasized that existing tools often increase the burden on calculators due to unreliable results, while Adjusto’s design focuses on intuitionality and accuracy, allowing calculators to concentrate more on customer service.
Currently, Adjusto is in the testing phase and is scheduled to be officially launched in July 2025, aiming to serve various property claim scenarios and promote the digital transformation of the insurance industry. Balarezo said, “We not only need to complete the task, but also solve practical problems and reshape the long-neglected claims experience.”
