Former Connecticut Governor John Rowland was pardoned by President Donald Trump. Roland was once the youngest governor of the state. During his tenure, he resigned due to a corruption scandal and was imprisoned twice. This pardon also includes former New York State Assemblyman Michael Green, as well as reality TV stars Julie and Todd Chrisley. Roland expressed “deep humility and gratitude” for this, calling it “a great final decision”.
Roland’s political career was once promising, but in 2004 he pleaded guilty to accepting bribes from contractors and was sentenced to 10 months in prison. In 2014, he was sentenced to 30 months in prison again for campaign financial fraud. Despite being convicted twice, he still attempted to rebuild his life, including working as a radio commentator and an insurance agent. The pardon did not eliminate his conviction record, but restored his right to vote and his eligibility to run for public office.
Roland was an insurance agent before entering politics, but his license expired in 2005. His family insurance institution was acquired in 2020. This pardon marks the end of the long legal dispute over the politician, who was once regarded as a rising star of the Republican Party.
