Nationwide Insurance Halts Pet Policies for 100,000 Animals

by Shine

Nationwide Insurance announced on Monday that it will discontinue pet insurance policies for approximately 100,000 animals, citing rising veterinary costs and other contributing factors.

This decision leaves tens of thousands of pet owners in a challenging situation, especially those with older pets or animals with pre-existing conditions, which may make them ineligible for insurance elsewhere.

The company emphasized that the cancellations were not influenced by the age or claims history of the pets. Instead, it suggested that the location of policyholders might have played a role in the decision.

In a communication to one affected customer, Nationwide explained that the specific type of policy they held would no longer be available in their state.

In response to the cancellations, some customers are banding together to explore potential legal action against the insurance company.
