Regional airline Silver Airways announced the suspension of operations on June 12th, causing some passengers to be stranded in Florida, the Bahamas and the Caribbean region. In a statement on its official website, the company said that after the failed reorganization through Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings, the acquirer decided not to continue flight operations and advised passengers not to go to the airport. They could apply for refunds through credit card companies or travel agencies.
This airline, headquartered in Hollywood, Florida, once operated eight ATR turboprop aircraft, serving five cities and 11 island destinations in Florida. Due to the suspension of operations, the number of its employees will be further reduced from 348, and most positions will be laid off. Silver Airways was established in 2011 and at its peak, it covered 28 destinations.
Its subsidiary Seaborne Airlines will continue to operate in the Caribbean region. This suspension marks the official exit of the regional airline, which has been in operation for 14 years, from the market.
