The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has reached a settlement with the sports brand Adidas USA. Adidas will pay a fine of $235,000 to address violations such as fall hazards and unsafe ladders in its warehouses. According to the agreement, the company must also implement enhanced safety measures in multiple facilities, including formulating comprehensive safety and health management plans and providing fall prevention training to employees.
This settlement originated from OSHA’s follow-up inspection of the Adidas warehouse in upstate New York in 2024. Previously, the inspection in 2021 had already found problems such as missing guardrails and unsafe ladders in this warehouse. However, the re-examination in 2024 revealed that Adidas had not thoroughly rectified the issues and even added new violations.
According to the settlement agreement reached on May 30th, Adidas must implement improvement measures at its facilities in New York, New Jersey and Puerto Rico, including assessing the risk of falls from heights and ceasing the use of elevated storage systems, etc. Adidas USA is a subsidiary of the German Adidas Group, with its headquarters located in Herzogenaurach, Bavaria.
