Recently, the Human Resources and Social Security Bureau of Tianjin, the Municipal Education Commission, the Municipal Finance Bureau, and the Municipal Taxation Bureau jointly issued a notice, encouraging interns and over-aged workers to participate in work injury insurance, in order to expand the coverage, share the risks of employers, and safeguard the rights of workers.
The notice clearly states that vocational school interns who meet the criteria (aged 16 or above) and over-aged employees (aged under 65 and not receiving pension benefits) can all participate in the insurance. The work-related injury insurance premium is paid monthly by the employing unit, and the rate is determined according to the unit’s standard.
If an insured person suffers a work-related injury or contracts an occupational disease, they can enjoy the benefits in accordance with the “Work Injury Insurance Regulations” and relevant provisions of Tianjin. The expenses such as the salary during the period of suspension from work for medical treatment and nursing fees that the employing unit is obligated to bear can be settled through agreement or legally.
This measure is aimed at safeguarding the medical treatment and economic compensation rights of the intern and over-aged employment groups, while reducing the employment risks of enterprises and promoting the harmony and stability of labor relations.
The relevant departments in Tianjin have stated that this policy will further improve the work injury insurance system and provide more comprehensive social security for flexible employment personnel.
