Sydney — More than half of Australians are willing to switch health insurance providers if offered attractive sign-up incentives, highlighting the growing role of perks in the competitive health insurance market, according to a recent Finder survey.
The survey, which polled 547 Australians, revealed that 31% would consider changing insurers for a 12-week free coverage offer.
Additionally, 19% identified gift cards and cashback deals as strong motivators to switch. Other popular incentives included bonus frequent flyer points (17%), reduced waiting periods (15%), and six weeks of free cover (9%).
Tim Bennett, insurance expert at Finder, noted that health insurers are increasingly leveraging perks to attract cost-conscious consumers seeking better value. “Perks like gift cards or frequent flyer points feel like a win — they give people a sense of immediate reward for what’s usually a pretty dull purchase,” Bennett explained. “For many Australians, health insurance feels like an unwelcome expense, so if a sign-up bonus adds some tangible value upfront, it can tip the scales and make switching feel worth it.”
This trend underlines the importance of understanding business insurance types and coverage options in a market where consumers increasingly compare insurance rates and benefits to maximize their investment.
