JetZero announced on June 13 that it plans to invest 4.7 billion US dollars to build its first next-generation passenger aircraft manufacturing plant in Greensboro, North Carolina. It is expected to create up to 14,500 jobs in the next ten years. This project is one of the largest employment commitments in the history of North Carolina, with an average annual salary of more than $89,000. The factory will produce the Z4 aircraft with a hybrid wing design, which has a 50% higher fuel efficiency than traditional passenger aircraft. It is planned to be commercially available in the early 2030s, with a target monthly production of 20 aircraft. United Airlines of the United States and Alaska Airlines have signed a conditional purchase agreement.
The government of North Carolina has provided incentives totaling over 2.35 billion US dollars to attract JetZero to settle down, including state and local tax breaks, training funds and infrastructure support. Governor Josh Stein said that the state’s booming aerospace industry and superior geographical location are the key factors that attract JetZero. The Piedmont Triads International Airport in Greensboro has become a center of the aerospace industry and has previously attracted enterprises such as Honda Aircraft Company and Boom Supersonic to settle in.
JetZero was founded five years ago and currently has only 225 employees. However, its Z4 aircraft has received funding from the US Air Force and plans to complete a demonstration model by 2027. The Z4 adopts an innovative design that can reduce noise and enhance the passenger experience. In the future, it will also be compatible with hydrogen fuel. This project marks a further breakthrough for North Carolina in the aerospace field, consolidating its position as an important manufacturing hub in the United States.
