The campaign Insurance United Against Dementia (IUAD) has appointed Chris Lay, CEO of Marsh McLennan UK, as its new chairperson as the initiative enters its next phase following the successful completion of its initial £10 million fundraising goal.
Lay, who brings extensive experience in the insurance sector, currently sits on the leadership council of TheCityUK and the president’s committee of The Confederation of British Industry. He is also a former president of The Insurance Institute of London.
Expressing pride in the campaign’s progress, Lay praised the efforts of outgoing chair Richard Dudley, IUAD board members, and supporters. “I am excited to lead IUAD as we continue strategic fundraising and awareness efforts to help combat the devastating impact of dementia,” Lay said.
Richard Dudley, BMS Group’s chief broking officer and outgoing chair, welcomed Lay’s appointment and pledged ongoing support for the campaign’s future growth.
This leadership transition coincides with a pivotal moment in dementia research. In late 2024, the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) approved two new drugs proven to slow Alzheimer’s disease progression. IUAD views this as a major breakthrough but emphasizes that lasting impact will require continued investment and collaboration within the insurance and wider business communities.
Lay emphasized the urgency: “These advances bring real hope for the nearly one million people living with dementia in the UK. Our industry must build on this momentum to drive meaningful change.”
