Phnom Penh, June 2025 — Cambodia’s insurance industry saw a 7% increase in total gross premiums in April 2025, reaching $27 million compared to the same month last year, according to the Insurance Regulator of Cambodia (IRC).
Life insurers led the growth with a 9.83% rise in premiums to $16.33 million, while general insurers posted a more modest increase of 2.07%, totaling $10.93 million during the period.
Total claims paid surged 56% to $8.18 million, up from $5.21 million in April 2024. Endowment policies dominated life insurance sales, accounting for 73% of the market, followed by term life policies. In the general insurance sector, property insurance held the largest market share at 33%, with medical and auto insurance following at 18% each.
The Cambodian insurance market currently comprises 18 general insurers, 14 life insurers, seven micro-insurers, and one reinsurer.
