COLOMBO, May 22 – The Insurance Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (IRCSL) has successfully launched its inaugural knowledge-sharing initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration between the insurance industry and academia.
The pioneering programme brought together professionals from the insurance sector and academic leaders involved in insurance-related degree programmes, with a focus on aligning university curricula with industry demands. The goal is to ensure future graduates are equipped with the skills and knowledge required by a rapidly evolving insurance landscape.
The initiative, conceived by IRCSL Chairman Ajith Raveendra De Mel, featured participation from 15 senior academic staff members representing eight institutions, including the University of Colombo, Wayamba University of Sri Lanka, and the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology. Representatives from the Actuarial Association of Sri Lanka also took part, highlighting the programme’s emphasis on technical expertise and actuarial science.
A key outcome of the programme was the recognition of academia’s role in advancing research, innovation, and talent development within the sector. Officials emphasized the importance of a collaborative approach between regulators, educators, and industry players in fostering a resilient and future-ready insurance ecosystem.
This initiative is seen as a vital step in promoting sustainable growth within Sri Lanka’s insurance industry. It also underscores the broader importance of accessible insurance guides and trustworthy insurance education in building public confidence and professional competence across the sector.
