PASADENA, Calif. — Victims of the Eaton Fire whose homes were destroyed or severely damaged are speaking out against State Farm, accusing the insurance company of delays and denials in processing their claims. On Thursday, a group of these fire victims gathered in Pasadena to demand that California’s Insurance Commissioner reject State Farm’s proposed 22% rate increase.
The group, known as the Eaton Fire Survivors Network, voiced their frustrations over what they described as a pattern of inadequate response from the insurance giant.
Matt Gabor, an Altadena resident whose home was impacted by the fire, shared his personal experience of the ongoing struggle with State Farm. Gabor claims that the company has refused to cover the damage to his property, leaving his family in a difficult situation.
“Doing this as a full-time job, like someone else said, and just to have the insurance company that’s really supposed to have your back completely abandon you, it’s just like a living nightmare,” said Gabor. He, along with his wife and two young children, has been forced to live in five different locations since the fire, which has left his home contaminated with ash, soot, lead, and other heavy metals.
Gabor expressed his opposition to State Farm’s request for a 22% rate hike, emphasizing that the company’s failure to properly address his claims has made rebuilding his life even more challenging.
In response to the criticisms, State Farm issued a statement to Eyewitness News on Thursday afternoon, expressing its commitment to helping customers resolve their claims and rebuild their lives, despite the ongoing disputes.
